Thanks especially to Daniel Romero who remained with us for the entire 9 hours that we spent in court. Both Delores and Leroy were found not guilty. The judge, who had actually sworn in Sandra Young as LAC president months before, attributed the whole incident to emotions running high because of the transformation plan and its tremendous impact on residents. He urged everyone to "work together." Delores was understandably very upset that Leroy was found "not guilty" because a guilty finding would have sent the message that force is not an acceptable means to keep a resident from attending a meeting at which a number of non-resident stakeholders are discussing the demolition of their housing. A postive outcome of the trial is that it recharged our energy and reminded us that we will have to work hard to expand the number of residents and nonresidents that support Moving with Faith if we are going to be able to hold the Wells LAC president accountable. However, the battle is not yet won. The Mayor's office and the CHA have agreed to look into and impliment the resolutions demanded by the union (that privitised labor at CHA sites be maintained at union standards to secure the jobs and working conditions for the workers). SEIU Local 1 is confident that CHA will make these changes, yet it is important for us to stay on the alert in case CHA backs down. The union has agreed to a 2 week cooling off period where they will not strike. JwJ will keep you posted about any updates. Thanks to all of you who have been supporting and keeping up with this struggle!! __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
