Fwd: October CHA Board meeting From: Grant ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 1 Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 14:40:16 -0700 (PDT) From: Grant Subject: Fwd: October CHA Board meeting --- Daniel Romero wrote: Hello all -- The next meeting of the CHA Board of Commissioner's will be held at 8:30AM on October 15th at Beacon House, 2540 W. Jackson in the heart of Rockwell Gardens. Yesterday, the Rockwell LAC President called a meeting with LAC members to discuss Board meeting etiquette such as not raising their voices at Board members, not standing up in a group, and not to bring any signs. Rockwell and Maplewood CPPH leaders have been calling me today to ask when CPPH will begin helping residents plan a "CPPH welcome" for the CHA Board. In our Rockwell organizing, for several weeks now, we have been telling residents that they have the full suport of CPPH and now residents are eager to SEE and EXPERIENCE the CPPH support they have. We are developing a cadre of good, strong, dedicated resident leaders at Rockwell and Maplewood and now it's time for CPPH to help them "turn it out." Please put this October 15th CHA Board meeting on your calendars now and help us get our people to show up. As those of you who have been doing this work for much longer than I have can attest, with two hi-rises sheduled to come down soon, the city is picking up the relocation pressure. Residents are being asked to sign forms they don't understand and don't get copies of, the LAC president and VP are ignoring elected building presidents and other residents who want information, and more parents than ever are now walking their kids to and from school because of the frequent fights that break out in the street. The leadership among the "young men" changes hands almost daily. I have been saying for some time now that because of the looming demolitions, Rockwell is the most dangerous neighborhood in the city. Over the past several months there have been many shootings, several police raids have been conducted, most recently last night. Like several of the previous raids, last night's raid targeted building 340 where we have been doing alot of organizing. As many as 30 people were arrested, mostly non-residents. Residents have been calling me all day to ask whether they will be evicted if their boyfriends or sons were picked up - of course I am giving them the proper referrals and we will be doing a resident's rights clinic early next week. Maplewood residents recently received notices that told them that it was unclear whether congress would reauthorize the Section-8 program, throwing many of those residents into their own panic. There's alot going on at Rockwell these days and the Coalition can do much to support those courageous women and their children as they struggle for stability amid so much insanity. daniel > __________________________________________________ Yahoo! - We Remember 9-11: A tribute to the more than 3,000 lives lost http://dir.remember.yahoo.com/tribute ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Your use of Yahoo!
